Picture of the Week: The Polish city of Łódź (or Lodz, in simplified Latin spelling), where I was born and raised. You can see the monument of Gen. Kościuszko — the leader of the first anti-Russian uprising of 1794 and a hero of the American Revolution. The monument was dynamited by the Germans in 1939, rebuilt only twenty years later (clearly, anti-Russian uprisings were not politically correct in those times). TIn the visible bottom panel, shaking hands with Kościuszko is Gen. Washington. As far as I know, this may be the only case of an American president depicted in a monument behind the Iron Courtain. |

The whole site (more than 300 pages!) has been instrumented to allow you for setting the font face and size to your liking. This is possible only if you allow me to set a cookie on your computer — that cookie stores your preferences and nothing else.
The setting is done from a small dedicated page; if you need more explanations, see the full version. Note that a link to font settings is now shown at the bottom of every page. |
